It is Your Belief System that Dictates Your Intepretation of Your Reality

Your belief system or core values is like an operating system on your computer.  It is the foundation of your personality.  It dictates how you interpret and react to your environment.

For example, if one has a core value that "Life should be fair", then you would expect that person to overreact to life's everyday unfairness.  Let's face it, life is NOT fair.  How can it be fair if people have different status, different power, and different position in our society.  The reality is that, "life is not fair".

However, if a person can change this core value to, "It would be nice if life is fair", then you would expect that person to not overly react to life's unfairness but to embrace it to some extent and try to make it fair.

The good news is that we can learn either to accept our core values or augment them in order to change our reactions into something more helpful.  We can achieve this through mindfulness, CBT and ACT.
